IIT Placements: Bhilai observes upward tick in placed students; slight increase in salary

IIT Placements: Instead of appearing for placement sessions, some students decided to pursue higher studies. The number has, however, decreased from 23 in 2019-20 to 13 in 2021-22.

IIT Placements: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhilai has conducted three campus placement sessions till now and as per the data made available by the institute, the placement statistics is bettering with each session.

The total number of placed students has almost doubled in the past three placement seasons. The number of total placed students in BTech programmes also increased from 58 in 2019-20 to 66 in 2020-21, and then jumped to 107 in the 2021-22 placement season. The number of registered students had also increased from 99 students in 2019-20 to 112 in 2020-21 and then to 119 in 2021-22.

While the number of placed students saw a significant jump, a similar jump was not observed in the average CTC. In the 2019-20 placement season, the average salary was Rs 11.3 lakh per annum, which slightly increased to Rs 11.82  lakh per annum in 2020-21. In 2021-22, the average salary increased a bit more than the previous years as it jumped to Rs 13.62 lakh per annum.

Some of the past recruiters include Google, Amazon, Intuit, Sprinklr, Commvault, Paytm, Dunzo, Atonarp, AirAsia Technology Centre, L&T, Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Cognizant, Delhivery, HCL, Jio, FIITJEE, ICICI Bank, Deloitte Consulting, Titan, Toppr, RedBus, Shriram General Insurance, Samsung Research, Air Asia, Carrier, BYJU’s, CDAC, Newgen, KPMG, OYO, Bosch and more.

Instead of appearing for placement sessions, some students decided to pursue higher studies. The number has, however, decreased from 23 in 2019-20 to 13 in 2021-22. It was only in 2020-21 when the number of students who chose to head for higher studies had increased dramatically to 36, which might have been due to the effect of Covid pandemic.

Some of the universities that IIT Bhilai students have opted are IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, IIT IIT Delhi, IISc Bangalore, Purdue University, The Ohio State University, Northwestern University, Stony Brook University, Purdue University, NIT Rourkela, Arizona State University, University of Illinois, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Jodhpur, IISER Mohali, IIM Calcutta, and more.

In the summer of 2023, more than 90 internship offers were received by our students from several organisations. Major internship recruiters were Trilogy, NVIDIA, Intuit, Thoucentric, Truminds, Perceptive Analytics, Sigmared, Atonarp etc. PSUs such as NTRO, CDAC also participated in the internship hiring for 2023.

The fourth campus placement session 2022-2023 is currently ongoing.

IIT Bhilai

IIT Bhilai was inaugurated in 2016 by Prakash Javedakar, Minister for Human Resource Development, Government of India, and Raman Singh, Chief Minister, Government of Chhattisgarh. IIT Hyderabad was entrusted with the responsibility of mentoring the institute under the guidance of Prof UB Desai, then-Director of IIT Hyderabad.

The institute has BTech programmes in six engineering disciplines i.e., Computer Science and Engineering, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering.

IIT Bhilai is ranked 81 among the engineering colleges of India by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2023.
