The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has forecast light to moderate rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal for seven days, starting December 25.
The sky is likely to be partly cloudy in Chennai and neighbouring districts for the next 24 hours with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 30°C and 23°C respectively, the RMC stated on Monday.
According to the weather department, the moderate showers are due to moderate north-easterlies/easterlies prevailing over the region in the lower tropospheric levels.
The department has predicted rainfall in the coastal regions and at one or two places over interior Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on December 28.
Meanwhile, as per the Tirunelveli district administration data, 16 people lost their lives in the recent floods in the district.
