1 killed, 2 injured in attack over herding of stray animals in Bareilly village

The farmers in the Bareilly village were attacked by others after stray animals went into their farm.

A fight over animals straying into agricultural fields turned fatal in a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly early on Sunday, leaving one farmer dead and two others injured.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Nanhey Lal, who suffered injuries on his head during an attack in Khajuwahi village under Visharatganj police station. They added the autopsy of the body has been done and the report is awaited.

Surjeet Singh Singh and Mukesh sustained injuries on their head and legs and are undergoing treatment at the hospital where doctors stated their condition is stable.

Mukesh Chandra Mishra, Additional Superintendent of Police, Bareilly, said three people have been booked in the case on charges of murder and attempt to murder and an investigation is on. The police have also detained one of the named persons in the FIR for questioning.

Deep Chand, Station House Officer, Visharatganj police station, said complainant Veerpal Singh told the police that following several reports of stray animals destroying their crop at night, his brothers Nanhey Lal, Surjeet Singh and Mukesh had been staying in a hut in the field to stay guard.

A native of Fatehpur village under Subhash Nagar police station, Veerpal’s farming land is located in neighbouring Khajuwahi village under the Visharatganj police station.

On Saturday night, the animals strayed into the field, prompting Nanhey Lal to alert his companions and all three managed to shoo the animals away. The police said the stray animal then moved into the field of the accused, located next to Veerpal’s farm, who were also guarding their crops.

Irked over it, accused Gabbar, Shivkumar, and his unidentified relative came to the victims’ hut and attacked them with sticks. By the time Veerpal reached the spot, the attackers had fled. Veerpal and his relatives rushed the three victims to the hospital where Nanhey Lal died during treatment.

A complaint has been filed at Visharatganj police station against Gabbar, Shivkumar, and their unidentified relative on charges of murder and attempt to murder.

Initially, there was confusion regarding the jurisdiction of the police station, but the matter was resolved after senior officers directed Visharatganj police to handle the case.
