At market for car repair, 29-year-old killed after being hit by four-wheeler

The victim was identified as Vikas Kumar. He came to the market to repair his Kwid, a car. The incident happened around 5 pm. Police arrested the XUV driver identified as Sudesh Bhardwaj, a resident of Mundi Kharar in Mohali. His XUV bearing Chandigarh registration number was seized.

Sources said motor mechanic Gurwinder Singh, 54, reported to the police that Vikas Kumar came to his shop to repair his car, Kwid, around 4.45 pm. He reported that he started repairing his car and Vikas sat on a plastic chair in front of his booth.

Police said that Gurwinder further reported, “Vikas was sitting on the plastic chair when all of a sudden, a man got into an XUV which was already standing there and ignited it. The driver of XUV accelerated the four-wheeler and crushed Vikas under the front portion. People raised a hue and cry. Injured Vikas was rushed to GMCH-32 where doctors declared him dead.”

The XUV driver was identified as Sudesh Bhardwaj. He was arrested and released on bail. Sources said though people claimed that the XUV was already in gear and it moved forward when Bhardwaj pressed the accelerator, the mechanical inspection of the XUV will be done to ascertain the actual condition. A case was registered at Sector 39 police station.

83-year-old hit

An 83-year-old woman was injured after being hit by an unknown car in Sector 43, Chandigarh. The woman was admitted to a private hospital. Her condition was stated to be stable. Sources said that one of her sons is a senior officer in the Punjab government. The incident happened on December 21. Police said the woman rushed to a private hospital. The family reported the matter to the police Sunday. A case was registered at Sector 36 police station.

Private security supervisor killed

A private security supervisor was killed in a road accident on Patiala road in Zirakpur. Police registered a case on Monday.

The victim was identified as Mandeep Joshi, a resident of Anand Bihar, Zirakpur. The victim was working as a private security supervisor.

Mandeep’s wife Ashu stated to the police that her husband had gone on duty on December 22, but he did not return home after his shift. She added that the next day, she received a call from an unidentified caller who informed her that her husband had met with an accident and was taken to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh.

“When I went to the hospital, the doctors declared him dead,” the complainant stated.

Acting on the complaint, Zirakpur police registered a case of death due to negligence and rash driving against an unidentified person.
