Dense fog in Delhi: Several flights, 14 trains delayed

The Delhi airport website highlighted delays in flights bound for Warsaw, Dubai, Kuwait, Kathmandu, London, and Mauritius. Arrivals from Baku, Abu Dhabi, Milan, Addis Ababa, and Doha were also delayed.

A dense fog enveloped Delhi on Tuesday morning, impacting visibility and causing disruptions in air and rail travel with several flights and trains being delayed.

With visibility at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport dropping to 50 metres, several flights were delayed on Tuesday. While airport authorities said five flights were diverted to Jaipur from 8.30 am to 10 am, Flightradar24, an online portal that tracks flights globally in real time, said 301 flights were delayed at Delhi airport on Tuesday and seven flights were cancelled.

ANI quoted airport officials as saying that Delhi airport was experiencing delays in both arrivals and departures for about 30 flights, including international, due to dense fog.

As of 10 am on Tuesday, the airport’s Runway Visual Range (RVRs) fell within the range of 125 to 275 metres, indicating CAT-III dense fog conditions. The Delhi airport website highlighted delays in flights bound for Warsaw, Dubai, Kuwait, Kathmandu, London, and Mauritius. Arrivals from Baku, Abu Dhabi, Milan, Addis Ababa, and Doha were also delayed.

Domestic flights to Chennai and Shimla were delayed while a Lucknow-bound flight was cancelled. Flights arriving from Chandigarh, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Ahmedabad also experienced delays due to the adverse weather conditions.

Meanwhile, Northern Railways reported delays in 14 trains headed for Delhi, originating from various parts of the country, including Puri, Howrah, Kanpur, Allahabad, Azamgarh, Bhagalpur, Gaya, Dibrugarh, Durg, Chennai, Hyderabad, Habibganj, Khajuraho, and Vasco.
